Since 2012 – Acosta Family (Pete, Yolima and our son Daniel)
Our first trip to Colombia was in 2012. We presented the vision for Colombia to Calvary Chapel Downey in 2011 and were approved to lead the first trip in July 2012. At the time I was serving in the Youth Ministry for Calvary Chapel Downey Spanish Ministry. Our first couple of trips were to Cali, Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla, Cartagena then finally in 2014 to La Guajira. Throughout the years we were able to establish many ministry partners throughout Colombia, which allowed us to experience different types of ministry opportunities.
We start in Barranquilla where some come from different parts of the US and meet up with others from different parts of Colombia to merge together.
We travel in a private bus to the northern part of Colombia, the city of Uribia. It’s 5 1/2 hours north of Barranquilla, which is where the federal highway ends. There we unloaded our cargo to large trucks and the team travels in off-road vehicles for about 6-7 hours.
We arrive at a school in the city of Siapana (Internado Indigena de Siapana). We stay on the school compound as our base camp. We are able to spend time with students, and teachers (for 6 days) who live on the compound for the school year.
We minister not only to local children but also to the surrounding communities in form of evangelism, workshops, games, and medical outreach.
We make our way back to Barranquilla and or Cartagena on Friday (early am) for other ministry opportunities before our Monday departure back home.
This will be a multicultural experience that very few Colombians ever experience, due to the tough terrain and sacrifice it takes to get to these remote areas. But God knows, IT’S ‘WELL WORTH IT!
We are praying God leads you to join us or partner with us in prayer and or your financial support.
